Turkey Season Nears at Rough Creek

Spring is on the horizon and with the coming warm weather the Texas Hill Country will be gearing up for the 2012 Turkey Season. With 11,000 acres of prime hunting land, Rough Creek Lodge is a hunter’s paradise and the perfect place for you to bag a prized tom!

At Rough Creek Lodge, our goal is to provide our guests with a superb hunting experience, that’s why we provide everything you need—personal attention from professional guides, experienced hunting dogs, and top-of-the-line shotguns. Just bring yourself, a hunting license, and maybe a friend!

The 2012 season will run March 31 – May 13—with guided, two-hour, early-morning hunts starting at just $250 per person (excluding harvest fees per bird, food and lodging). Are You Spartan Tough?

Mud, water crossings, rope climbs, fire, and barbed wire with cacti were just some of the obstacles runners faced December 3, 2011 at the Texas Super Spartan Race here at Rough Creek Lodge. With rainy, cold conditions, over 3,500 athletes took part in what is called “the ultimate obstacle race.”

In the cash prize heat—racers Hobie Call and Jenny Tobin took home first place and a $10,000 prize in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Runners were treated to a fantastic Texas-style BBQ and live entertainment following the race.

The Spartan Race will return to Rough Creek Lodge, December 1-2, 2012. Don’t miss your chance to push yourself to the limit with 10-12 miles of monstrous challenges that will test you physically and mentally. Compete individually or as a team and find out if you are “spartan tough.”

Registration for the 2012 race has already started and will fill up fast. Sign up before June 1st and pay only $110—which includes: a finisher’s medal, t-shirt, free beer ticket for anyone 21 and over, a catered meal, and live band entertainment.

Chef Thompson’s Fin de Semaine Menu

For our menu this weekend we are looking forward to presenting some fresh new additions to our ever changing seasonal menu, with a bit of an emphasis on persimmons and duck.

For instance, fresh persimmons will be used in a Mixed Green Salad with House Cured Duck Prosciutto; house-made Persimmon Chutney will perfectly complement our house salt-cured Foie Gras. 

Many more seasonal items will join the menu, including Duck with Sweet Potatoes, Quail with Grits, Rutabaga Soup with House-Cured Pancetta, and an exquisite Filet Mignon with Goat Cheese “Mac & Cheese.” (If you’ve never had our version of mac and cheese, you’re in for a wonderful surprise!)

A Grand Wedding Occasion

A Fall wedding at Rough Creek Lodge is nothing short of exquisite. Autumn shades cover the live oak trees and cool breezes fill our little piece of Texas hill country—that’s why so many brides choose our picturesque locale to say, “I do.”

While each celebration at Rough Creek is unique and beautiful in it’s own right, one in particular this past October perfectly encapsulated what we strive to achieve with each wedding: sheer perfection.

The wedding family reserved every guest room; if wedding guests saw an unfamiliar face it was probably one of our employees!

The festivities began with a rehearsal dinner on Friday evening in our newly enclosed Pavilion. The picture-perfect weather allowed us to open up the moving glass doors to bring some of the outside in. Because rehearsal dinners are no longer smaller affairs for the friends and family, this soirée was just as elegant as the actual wedding reception. Tables were covered with beautiful burlap toppers; the rustic theme was carried out with floral décor that included aromatic sage, rosemary, and other seasonal herbs—all by designer Rusty Glenn of Dallas fame.

The next day, the couple exchanged nuptials in our quaint 1800s-style chapel decked out with fabulous décor in shades of purple. Following the ceremony, the bride and groom headed to our Great Room for a grand reception. Custom lighting treatments softened the ambiance of the room; guests sat comfortably in chair cushions brought in by special order as the couple cascaded down the staircase and went right into their first dance—it was a truly magical moment!

After dinner and cake cutting, all the guests were invited outside for a champagne toast and professional fireworks show. That’s when the party really started—live music, dancing, flip-flops and fun!

From start to finish the entire event was simply breathtaking. Whether your big day is going to be small and intimate, large and majestic, or something in between—creating a one-of-a-kind experience is what we do at Rough Creek.
