Our hunting season is October through March.

Included within Upland Bird packages

All hunt packages include the following:

• Guides, dogs, hunting trucks, vests and hats.
• Shotgun shells. All ammo shot at Rough Creek Lodge is low brass, 31⁄4 dram equivalent with 1 oz. of 7.5 or 8 shot or less.
• Specially designed soft-sided, airline approved cooler containing vacuum packed and processed game
• No bag limits or per bird hunting charges.

Beretta 686 over/under shot guns are available and complimentary for any hunt guest and should be reserved in advanced. For hunters bringing there own guns to Rough Creek Lodge, these guns must be stored in the guest’s vehicle or in the Rough Creek Lodge gun safe when not in use. Guns must be equipped with skeet or improved cylinder chokes only.  As a service to our hunters, guest’s guns are cleaned after each hunt at no charge.

Whitetail Deer Hunting

Seasons

Our season correlates to the Texas Parks and Wildlife designations. We hunt in two counties, Somervell and Erath, both of which are “one buck and two antlerless” counties.

Deer Population

Our entire deer population is free ranging (not high fenced.) We use tree stands, tripods and ground blinds over feeders on hundreds of acres.

If unsuccessful on initial hunting excursion to harvest a deer, we allow an additional field hunt.

Processing is available upon request at an additional charge.

Turkey Hunting

Seasons

Our Turkey Hunting season correlates to the Texas Parks and Wildlife designations. We hunt in two counties, Somervell and Erath, both of which allow gobblers and bearded hens in the Fall and gobblers only in the Spring. In the Spring you have a 4-turkey bag limit, gobblers only.

Pricing

Guided Hunt $250 day fee
Turkey Harvest $250 each bird. Hunter may harvest up to 4 birds total. (Gobblers only - 4 Turkey Bag Limit)

Processing is available upon request at an additional charge.
Room accommodations and meals are an additional separate charge exclusive of tax.

Elk Hunting

Flat Top Ranch

Elk Hunting is at neighboring Flat Top Ranch. Trophy Rocky Mountain Bull Elk flourish on the grasslands and have to be seen to be believed.

Exotics Hunting

Young Ranch

Exotics are at neighboring Young Ranch. A vast array of Blackbuck, Buffalo, Corsicanan Sheep, Eland, Perré David Deer, Fallow, Four-Horned Sheep, Mouflan Sheep, Oryx, Red Sheep, Silka and more. Hunters never feel crowded at Young Ranch with the vast valleys and rolling hills.

Hunting Policies

Additional Costs

A valid Texas hunting license is required and available for purchase through the Wildlife department.
$23 per person for Texas residents, one-year license.
$25 per person for non-resident, five-day license (valid only at Rough Creek).

Hunting Guide and Bellman Gratuities are at your discretion.

Taxes are additional and calculated upon departure.

Please Note

A Continental Style Pheasant Shoot can replace a Mixed Bag Hunt for an additional $250 per hunter with eight or more hunters

In compliance with our liquor licensing requirements, alcoholic beverages may not be brought on to the premises of Rough Creek Lodge.

Safety

Upland Bird Hunting is a fast and furious sport. A covey of 15 birds may fly 15 different directions. For the safety of you, your guests, our experienced guides, and our great dogs, we allow two shooters on the ground at one time. We assure you there is plenty of shooting for everyone at Rough Creek Lodge.

Hunting safety is our first priority.  Safety instruction is given before every hunt to all hunters. Hunter’s Orange must be worn at all times - we provide a complimentary blaze orange cap for all hunters.

A Driven Pheasant Shoot can replace a Mixed Bag for an additional $250 per hunter with eight or more hunters.

Recommended Items

Bring sunscreen and clothing appropriate to the season – dressing in layers may be necessary. Don’t forget boots, hunting vests, coats or rain gear.

Hunting Deposts and Cancellations

A 50% deposit is required at the time of reservation.

Reservations cancelled 45 days or more prior to the date of the activity may be rescheduled within 6 months of date of cancellation.  The date of the rescheduled activity must be no later than the last day of the current Rough Creek Lodge hunting season.

Reservations cancelled 44 days or less prior to the date of the activity cannot be rescheduled and the deposit will be forfeited.  Reservations cancelled 30 days or less prior to the date of the activity will be invoiced at the full contract amount.

Arrival and Departure

Guests may check in after 3 p.m. Check-out is at 11 a.m. daily. Changing facilities are available for early arrivals and late departures.

Weather

All activities are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.  Rough Creek Lodge Staff may cancel activities if weather conditions warrant. Activity cancellations must be made two hours prior to avoid being charged in full. Rough Creek Lodge does not offer “Rain Checks” due to weather.

Pets

Kennel Boarding

Rough Creek offers kennel space for your hunting dogs. If you are planning on bringing your pet, please call in advance. We must receive veterinary documentation that all shots are current and include Kennel Cough inoculation. $50 per night per dog includes kennel space, feeding with high-quality food and twice a day cleaning.

Inroom

Rough Creek Lodge has a limited number of rooms to accommodate your pet. If you are planning on bringing your pet, please call in advance.

In-room pets must be less than 40 pounds and kept in a pet carrier.

Your pet is to always be attended while in your Guestroom. Pet-sitting services can be arranged for $10 per hour with a four-hour minimum. Any pets that disturb other guests due to excessive barking or similar activity will be asked to kennel the dog in our covered kennel.

Housekeeping will not enter the room to clean or perform turndown services unless the pet is out of the room or is crated.

While on Rough Creek Lodge grounds, your pet must be on a leash. Pets are not allowed in the Main Lodge, Terrace, Pool or Spa areas.

Owners are responsible for pet clean up. Do not use areas near the Main Lodge, Guest Rooms, Beretta Room and other guest areas. Please take your pet to the area west of the tennis court.

A $250.00 non-refundable charge will be required at check-in and the front desk must be notified prior to your arrival.  Any damages above $250.00 will be charged at time of checkout.

A pet towel is provided for cleaning. Do not use bath towels for this purpose. Pets are not allowed on any beds. We provide a mat for pet use. Do not use bed linens, towels or the comforter as pet bedding.
